VOA-GNY is proud to announce that we have been selected as a co-developer of Hillside Grove, a transformative project that will repurpose a long-disputed sanitation depot in Staten Island into affordable housing and a vibrant community hub. As part of a broader initiative to revitalize Staten Island’s North Shore, Hillside Grove will feature 232 units of affordable housing, a courtyard space for residents, a public plaza, and a grocery store—addressing the needs of a neighborhood identified as a food desert.

For decades, community advocates have called for the closure of this sanitation depot. Now, this project not only fulfills that goal but also advances housing, food, and environmental justice. Hillside Grove stands as a powerful testament to what can be achieved through a once-in-a-generation investment in realizing the vision of community members.

“Everyone deserves an affordable, safe, and comfortable place to call home,” said Jeffrey Ginsburg, President & CEO of Volunteers of America-Greater New York. “It is a privilege to contribute to the broader revitalization of Staten Island’s North Shore through the transition of this sanitation depot into desperately needed affordable housing. We are excited to lend our expertise as a leading non-profit housing developer and a trusted provider of social services to this transformational project. Hillside Grove is a powerful example of what can be achieved when a once-in-a-generation investment is made to realize the vision of community members.”
