Why is Operation Backpack® unique?
We put respect for children at the center of Operation Backpack® by purchasing top quality school supplies and a variety of backpacks to ensure they cannot be distinguished as “shelter backpacks.”
Our supply lists for each grade grouping are based on the requirement lists from 30+ public schools. We make sure children receive their backpacks and supplies before the first day of school, instead of distributing them at school where students could feel embarrassed or identified as “in need.”

Backpack Donations
All backpacks must be:
- Brand new
- School-sized
- Kindergarten & Elementary: 15 inches minimum
- Middle & High School: 17 inches minimum
