Operation Backpack 2010

One of the most devastating consequences of homelessness is the impact it has on a child's education. There are nearly 11,000 school-age children living with their families in New York City homeless shelters on any given day. Most of these children will go back to school in September without the basic school supplies they need unless we help.
Last year, with more than 90 community partners and hundreds of individuals participating, more than 6,000 children, in shelters throughout New York City, received new, filled backpacks. This year our goal is even more ambitious: 9,000 filled backpacks. Hear what spokesperson Paige Davis said on WPIX-TV.
