Our volunteers - both individuals and groups - tutor children in our family shelters, facilitate discussion groups and Bible studies, help maintain buildings and gardens, sort toys and school supplies during our annual drives, chaperone children on field trips, perform administrative tasks and much more.

Volunteers of America was founded in 1896 by Maud and Ballington Booth - who embodied the spirit of volunteerism with their tireless desire to serve others. Today, we continue in their footsteps by providing meaningful opportunities for individuals and communities to experience the joy of serving others through volunteering. When you volunteer with Volunteers of America, you join over 1,500 individuals in the Greater New York area who provide immeasurable service to our clients and help us achieve our mission to reach and uplift thousands of people in need every year.
